In the name of full disclosure, I must add that the seminar was underwritten by an unrestricted educational grant from my agency's client OraPharma, Inc., manufacturer of the locally applied antibiotic ARESTIN® (minocycline hydrochloride) Microspheres, 1 mg (http://www.arestin.com/) which is indicated as an adjunct to scaling and root planing procedures for reduction of pocket depth in patients with adult periodontitis...Sorry, had to get all that pharma industry regulatory compliance lingo in there.
Anyway where was I? Oh yeah - the seminar was presented before a packed house consisting of dentists, hygienists and dental assistants by Michael Rethman, DDS and his wife, Jill Rethman, RDH. Although we've met in the past, I've never seen the Rethman's in action doing their continuing education tag team thing.
Let me tell you, the Rethmans are the power couple of the dental industry lecture circuit. Dynamic, personable, knowledable and informative they covered a lot of ground regarding periodontal disease including the following:
- Risk Assessment
- Oral/Systemic Health Issues
- Advances in Care
- Patient Co-Management
Although I will never be able to apply this information in clinical practice, It will definitely help me do my job as a PR practitioner in the dental industry better.
